Just got this, completely game breaking. Bunch of workshop addons I already had aren't being recognised by the game, and I can't redownload because the game just don't do it. Tried fully reinstalling, restarting game, unsubscribing from workshop items I'm unsure if I'm suffering from the same problem; but every so often when I launch Gmod, no addons load.

I click on the addons box and it's completely clear; where-as the day before I had about 10 pages. Checking the x86 program files; and through steamapps, it's all still there. But ingame, it is being a bit menstrual about when to load. It works on and off; but not to my command. It only takes a minute to sign up. You can find a copy of this question asked by me on the Facepunch Forums. When I subscribe to an addon on the Garry's Mod workshop, Steam instantly downloads them in the download manager. When I open Garry's Mod, it seems to be downloading even more things, and both stages uses bandwidth as far as I can see. As in: Garry's Mod does not use the files downloaded by Steam. Does it? Garry's Mod downloads all the updates before decompressing new workshop files downloaded through Steam.

As you know, when subscribing to an addon from the Garry's Mod Workshop and not through the in-game addons menu , Steam automatically downloads the files compressed in LZMA format , which sit somewhere inside your Steam folder. When you boot up Garry's Mod, it follows the list of procedures as listed above. It checks for any updates to existing addons, and then mount them.

Then, it decompresses new addons downloaded via Steam and mounts them too. The cause of your problem is because you have so many about 1, addons , and that there are many updates, you're not waiting for them to complete, thus stopping the update process before the point where it unpacks the new addons that are downloaded through Steam , which happens after all updates are finished. I guess it's been fixed now.

This seems to happen whenever the Steam workshop goes down. The only solutions I know of are either switch to offline mode or wait for it to come back online. Sign up to join this community.
